Hiring Update(s)

5/20/25: Both the City of Boston and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts are in the process of hiring new leaders. The city is expected to announce a new Commissioner of Parks and Recreation in early summer. The State Department of Conservation and Recreation is currently interviewing to replace the existing Commissioner, who is taking a new job at Mass Lowell in mid-summer.

5/22/2025: The Trust for Public Land (TPL) announced the annual ParkScore rankings on May 21, 2025. Boston is #12, up from #14 in 2024. Check out the specifics here. Be sure to read the results of a national survey by TPL and YouGov: “Parks: the Great Unifer”

Charles Bank Ground Breaking

On 5/13/25, the Esplanade Association broke ground on the new Smith Family Pavilion at CharlesBank, adjacent to Teddy Ebersole Fields and the under construction Gronk Playground. Details are here.
